On a scale of 1 – 10 how committed are you to making changes?  If the answer is 5 or less, make sure your target for the amount of weight you want to lose reflects that. You are not going to lose a dress size a month, but you may lose a dress size every 7-8 weeks. If it’s between 6-8,  you probably can lose a dress size a month. What you achieve is directly related to the amount of effort you put in.  It’s far better to operate at a 6-7 and be able to sustain it – for life! Than to go all out at 9 or 10 and give up because you just can’t keep it up. Remember the story of the tortoise and the hare?  When you embark on a programme you cant sustain, failure is inevitable, then next time you want to lose weight your unconscious mind remembers the failure and will sabotage your efforts to save you the pain. Increase your resolve…..

Most of us need a car, but how many of us buy the car we need as opposed to the car we want? For most of us a safe reliable car is all we need, but many of us want more, we want luxuries like air conditioning, a good CD, electric windows, heated seats, cruise control… these are not things we need, they are things we want. If you were saving for a car, and you stopped going out for meals, went without a holiday, and put away £400 per month for 12 months, you would have £4,800 to buy a car. The desire for that car would have to be stronger than your desire to go out and go on holiday. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being maximum effort, you would be putting in 10. There are not many people that have got that level of resolve (I certainly haven’t). Most people operate between 5-8. Even if your resolve is strong, you still need the techniques and the strategy to succeed, after all if you are 100% intent on seeing a sunset and you spend every evening looking east, you are not going to achieve your goal.
